Using Endpoint Security Management in ZCM 11 -- Online Training from Novell

As a network administrator, have you ever pondered how nice your job would be if it weren't for those pesky users in your network? I'm sure many administrators and engineers have dreamed, at least now and then, about how smoothly they could have their networks running if there were no users to mess things up.

A network without users, a school without students, or a hospital without patients. As nice as it sounds, you're unlikely to ever realize this dream job. (Although, do a search for the British sitcom, Yes Minister, and find the episode "The Compassionate Society," and you'll see how such a thing is plausible, given enough silly bureaucracy. Great quote from that episode "First of all you have to sort out the smooth running of the hospital. Having patients around would be no help at all.")

The next best thing to having no pesky users would be to have the ability to prevent their pesky behavior. So along comes ZENworks Endpoint Security Management (ZESM), which has been integrated into ZENworks 11 Configuration Management (ZCM 11). We have a training offering coming up on May 18th that you'll be interested in if you want to see how to use ZESM in ZCM 11. The class is called "Using Endpoint Security Management in ZCM 11."

I asked the instructor to help me talk intelligently about what's going to be in the class. He says the class will show how "ZESM can do some cool stuff to make the network administrator's life easier." Presumably, without removing users from the network.

He goes on to say that this class will teach how to do the following on user's workstations:

  • Prevent nasty or unsupported apps from running
  • Control the use of thumb drives & external drives
  • Enforce policies based on where the workstation is located

Finally, he said there would also be stuff in the class concerning Wi-Fi management, and more. His advice to those who already know ZCM, or are considering upgrading from ZDM to ZCM ... "You ought to sign up for Novell's On-line class coming up May 18th!"

It's a 1-day, online class with the usual hands on exercises, and a live (and lively) instructor.
